Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to the most commonly asked material handling questions.
When you sell as many lines of equipment as we do, you can believe that we hear a lot of questions not only about our company, but also about used and reconditioned material handling equipment. On this page, the owners of SJF (Frank, Jim and Stafford Sterner) give answers to the most common questions they hear from day to day.
F.A.Q.
Q: Isn't all used material handling equipment just a bunch of rusty junk?
A: That's like saying all cars, unless they are new, are nothing but junk! It's Simply Not True.
There is plenty of junk to be found out there, but it's our job to find quality product for you whether it's new or used. Those that take the time to do their homework will find our reputation is second to none within the industry at providing quality products and services for our clients. 2009 marked SJF's 30th anniversary of successfully integrating new and used equipment for clients nationwide.
Let's face it, you only get one chance to make a good first impression. We like to think that if given the opportunity to earn your business, we'll make you glad you did! This past year we had a record number of existing clients recommend us to their friends, family and others within the business community. For us at SJF, that's pretty exciting stuff.
Q: I need several items. I have never purchased material handling equipment before.
How do I know what products and sizes I need?
A: You're Not Alone.
Most people don't buy material handling equipment every day. Most are not familiar with all the options available. We are here to assist you in every way we can. We can design, outfit or install just about any system for any business there is. Our salespeople are versed on what products will work best for your specific need and our engineering and consulting staff are more than happy to assist you in choosing the various products and options available. We will work within your budget and suggest materials that allow you to update and modernize your operation as your business grows and expands.
Q: I see SJF sells new, used and reconditioned material. What does reconditioned mean?
A: All Reconditioned Material is Not Created Equally.
Chances are, you already already understand the basic differences between used and reconditioned equipment. The problem is that "reconditioned" can be a very vague term, covering anything from a quick paint job to a complete rebuild. At SJF, we like to think of our reconditioning process as unique - we call it "Renewed Equipment".
Our renewed equipment has gone through a very specific program of disassembly, evaluation and comparison to the original specs, reengineering to the new application, assembly and cosmetic treatment. This kind of work is our specialty - something we have been doing for 30 years. The difference between us and our competitors is that the "Renewed" label tells our clients exactly how much value has been added, and just how close to "like new" our equipment will perform.
Q: I've heard of people having bad experiences buying used material handling equipment.
How do I know I will get a quality product from you?
A: As in any industry there are good and bad when it comes to finding a reliable supplier.
To properly service clients in todays marketplace, you just can't work out of your home with nothing more than a phone and a good sales pitch. With SJF, you get a company that has been providing used and refurbished material handling equipment to everyone from one-man shops to Fortune 500 companies for 30 years. Each and every one of SJF's clients rests easy knowing a full time qualified design, engineering and sales staff is always only a phone call away.
With over 20 acres of used material handling equipment, you'd be hard pressed to find a more reliable source for quality product and fast service. We encourage any client to come and personally inspect any product we offer for sale at any time. We can send pictures of any product we have and our salespeople are trained to give every client a true and honest assessment of any product we offer for sale. Our reputation depends on it!
Q: Our company has a policy of only buying new products.
What can you offer me on new material that your competition cannot?
A: A good question!
Let's take pallet racks as an example. There are many companies that sell new pallet racks. Most don't stock much if anything. At SJF we have over 2000 uprights and 10,000 beams in stock at all times ready to ship. It's expensive to carry that kind of inventory. We do it because "customer service is our #1 priority". In today's market customers just don't have the time to wait 5 or 6 weeks for delivery from the factory. Lastly, something else to consider when you can't decide who deserves your business...
If for any reason you ever decide to sell a product you purchased from us, we'll buy it back. We Guarantee It!
Now, isn't that the true test?
