The SJF sales team recently had the chance to sit down with reps from SSI Schaefer for a product demo and informational session on the LOGIMAT Vertical Lift Module. Kevin Foht and Jonathan Butkus from SSI Schaefer walked the group through how the system works, what it can do, and where it fits in a real warehouse environment.

The LOGIMAT is a vertical lift module designed to store and retrieve small parts without eating up floor space. It works like an oversized drawer cabinet - two stacks of trays on either side of an internal lift. You select a tray from a touchscreen interface, and the lift brings it down to a waist-height access opening. No climbing, no digging through shelving, no wasted steps.

The system can cut floor space usage by up to 90% compared to traditional shelving, and the automated processes have been shown to improve picking performance by more than 20%. It runs on a rack and pinion gear system - exclusive to SSI Schaefer - which means fewer alignment issues and less downtime than belt or chain-driven alternatives.

From a software standpoint, the LOGIMAT scales from a basic plug-and-play PLC setup all the way up to full SAP integration, with options in between for WMS connectivity, barcode scanning, batch picking, and user-level security access.
