Interlake’s old style and new style pallet rack systems differ primarily in their connector and column designs. The old style features a teardrop-shaped punch pattern that was standard for many years across Interlake’s original frames and beams. This design uses a rounded teardrop hole with a specific lug spacing unique to the older Interlake configuration.

The new style, introduced after Interlake merged with Mecalux, features a slightly modified teardrop pattern and an updated beam connector design. While it looks similar at a glance, the hole spacing and lug alignment are different, meaning the two styles are not interchangeable without adapters or replacement components. The new style offers improved connection strength, better load distribution, and compatibility with current Interlake Mecalux production standards.

In short, old style components fit legacy Interlake installations, while new style components align with today’s manufacturing and safety standards. When expanding or repairing an existing system, it’s important to identify which version you have to ensure proper fit and performance.
